Shaping your eyebrows, tweeze,shave or threading method??

Eyebrows frames the face.A well groomed eyebrows can do wonders on your appearance. Grooming your eyebrows the wrong way can make you look old, or add years to your face.

You can look polish, smart and fresh by just grooming your brows and wearing a simple makeup.

Above picture is Laura. She is a very talented stage actress/singer from Ateneo. If you look closely, her brows has a pretty defined shape and only a little tweezing is needed to groom it. But her right eyebrows has a "bald" spot.This is not a problem. Just fill it in with pencil or brow powder.

Common mistake done by most women is using black for their eyebrows, since their hair is black.
I recommend Taupe or light brown, depending on hair color and skin tone.

For Laura, I used a light brown shade from smashbox. I used tweezers to groom her brows because the hair is very fine and the shaver cannot pick it up. I Just followed the natural shape of her brows.

Cel's eye brows in my opinion is over-plucked. Without makeup, she looks a bit older than her actual age. So in I made the shape a bit thicker than the actual shape ( I did her prenup hair & makeup )

This technique can make you look younder and fresher.

Notice the celebrities nowadays ( some though, over-do it! ) in movies, prints and tv shows, their eyebrows are full, thicker looking. Its because, thicker brows can automatically shed off a few years.

Note: This is because as we grow old, most of our facial hair (LOL ) will fall off or not be as full as they use to be. So by grooming your brows to appear a bit thicker can instantly perk up your appearance.

As for Rachel, she has very fine almost not seen eyebrows. Her right brows, has a scar so theres not hair growth.

See how a well groomed brows made her look fresh and young? Her eyebrow shape is a bit thick, so I used a taupe shade with a little pink in it.

Eyebrow color looks nicer if its lighter than the hair color. But again, nothing is set in stone. It still depends on the over all effect you want to achieve.

Here I want Rachel to look Fresh. Visualize, Jennifer Connely. Dark hair, dark brows, Demi Moore and Camilla belle??

So whether to pluck,shave or thread is personal preference. Personally, I just shave my brows because its faster and easy to do and you could its already a routine for me. I rarely pluck my brows. I seldom resort to threading because I find it painful and stressful! hahahaha.

My advice, if your brows a virgin (hehehe) never been touched,shaped whatsoever, go to a professional. I mean, a reputable salon and not a soso salon. Im not snobbish or picky but most small salons ( that sometimes uses blade -sorry im not impressed, im horrified and scared ) will either shave it to thin or not to your liking and they will insist they know better. Sorry if Im ranting.

Its actually based on my experince ( twice!! shame on me right? ) awhile back when I was still working as a marketing professional designer and I had no formal training yet in makeup.

This is your face we are talking about. Invest in it. :-)

I always say, if you can spend money on the latest cellphone, or shoes, why not spend good money for your appearance??

A professional makeup artist can also shape it for you. I do this to all my clients. Then just follow the natural shape.

Tweezing plucks the hair at the roots so it will take longer for the hair to grow. Shaving on the other hand, just cuts the hair at the skin, so it grows faster compared to when you pluck. If I dont shave my brows in 2-3 days, I can already see the stray hairs.

Fresh Younger looking makeup

At 39, my goal is to eat healthy and look young. But im weak! hahahaha. I eat a lot of junk and lack a good night sleep. In my next post I will tell you my beauty routine, but for now, lets fake it thru makeup!

The above photo was taken by my hubby and the camera setting has flash, so you can see the effect of the highlighters I used.

This is my Go-To Fresh Beauty Makeup.

We all want to look fresh and well rested.Most women refuse to wear makeup for fear of looking old. But wearing the right product and using the right amount of makeup can do wonders for your appearance.

With all the wonderful anti aging products out there, makeup, skin care and tools, as well as vitamins and treaments, its not impossible to look younger than our real age.

As for makeup is concerned using a foundation with medium to full coverage is the key. Use it sparingly though. A little goes a long way. I used LAURA MERCIER CREME FOUNDATION here.

Im not using a PRIMER here but if I was, I will reach for SMASHBOX silicon primer. Skip this if you have sensitive or acne prone skin.

Using a creme blush underneath your powder, applying it after foundation, gives you a subtle glow. Here I used Cover girl cream blush ( coral color is flattering for all skin color) and I used a Sheer Peach blush that has a subtle shimmer and gold flecks, pretty much like NARS Orgasm, but less the glitter.

For the lips, would you believe its 3 products???
Plumping Sheer lipstick from Physicians Formula, 3 shades. Lightest at the center of my lips.
I outlined my lipline using a loreal lip liner, peachy brown simillar to my lip color and blended it inward with my pinky finger.

Then I topped it off with a Sheer gloss from Mac that relflect light, but only at the center of my lips.

Im wearing false lashes but- half only (demi lash) at my outer eye to elongate my eye and give that lift.
I also used a gel liner from MAC that looks like BLACK but its dark brown.

The white part you see on my right eye is just the lash glue still drying. It will dry clear.

Review on MAC paint pots

I have 3 MAC paint pots and so far, these babies are part of my makeup essentials. I swatched them above: Bare study-Champagne gold. Constructive: Medium Taupe and Rubenusque: Copper gold.

Bare study: this is a champagne gold color. If you are fair to medium fair, this will appear as invisible to your skin but will reflect light. So its great as highlight. If your a bit tan or dark, this is a great eyeshadow highlight. I even use this on top of my lpstick so it catches light.

This shade looks like its hard to wear but really, its not. Wear it as an eyeshadow base, wear it alone or top if off your eyeshadow to create highlight and shimmer to your eyeshadow. I will do a tutorial for these paint pots and show how to use them for everyday or for a special event.

I use these paint pots even for my brides as highlight, eyeshadow base and even as lipstick (combined with other lipstick) They are smudgeproof, water resistant/waterproof and long wearing. You need a makeup remover for waterproof makeup to remove it.

This shade is great for base for neutrla eye design, smokey eyes and contouring. It looks matte but it has a subtle sheen to it reflects light. This means if you have crepey eyelids (common to women above 50) this might emphasize your wrinkles.

Over all, these are not really something you need if your budget is low or you dont even wear makeup everyday. But invest on just one and see the many uses and glam things it can do to your otherwise plain "look "

To sum up its many uses:

1.Eye shadow base and eyeshadow primer
Apply this before your regualr powder eyeshadows to avoid creasing and make your eye shadow last longer. Even if you sweat or got rained on, cry, trust me, these babies will still be there.

This can intesify your eyeshadows as well and make it appear more saturated ( pigmented) and vibrant.
Example: I usually apply the Rubensque before a gold eyeshadow to make it look more vibrant.

2.Highlight
Apply this after foundation, before you set it with powder and you will see a nice glow. I reccomend the bare study if your fare or medium tan. The Rubenusque is soo lovely on the skin, collar bone when your a bit darker. Well I wore this on the beach and It felt like I was a golden goddess. LOL.

3.Contouring
There are matte versions of these paint pots that can be used as contour shades as well, depending on your skin color.

5.Add pizzaz to your dull lip color
Just make sure your lipstick is a bit creamy and not super matte because it does not have any moisturizer so it has a tendency to dry the lips. So of course, you dont wear this alone.

I looove this pic. Honestly, and not because I did her makeup. Chini is the type of gal who does not wear makeup at all. Then on her wedding day I suggested a red lip and cat eyeliner makeup. Without any hesitation she agreed and that was refreshing. No second guessing, doubts or any "arte" LOL.

It gave me the confidence to really concentrate on the makeup and not worry about anything else. Please forgive me when I say that, there are Bridezillas out there who will not stop squinting and complaining about anything and everything you put on their face, but they do not have a clue of what they want you to do. :-(

Chini and her mom trust me and and Im so glad to have been a part of this wedding.

Trick to soften your features!

Do you find yourself looking so strong whenever you groom your brows?? (looking like a man or looking like.."grrr' ?? )

Maybe you have facial hair that you're afraid to shave off fearing it will grow back thicker than before? Arm hair that makes you look like your a cousin of Kingkong? hahaha.

Fear not my leash. Umm, I meant my lovelies! I have been using Sally Hansen Hair bleaching cream for as long as I can remember.

I first learned about this when I was working as a Product Manager for Penshoppe. I will visit Photo shoots and work with fashion stylist and makeup artist like Lala Flores, Christ and Robbie Pinera. Who would think I would later be a makeup artist myself??

Anyways, Christ was the makeup artist we got for Penshoppes endorser maxine, alongside Cogie Domingo. He lightened Maxine's eyebrows to match her hair color at that time. I think that was 1998-1999. Ever since that, I have been lightening all my unwanted facial hairs.LOL.

For softening your features, lighten your eyebrows a bit and even if you have black hair, this will instantly soften your features. I also do this for my client brides that have darker brows that does not match their hair color.

To emphasize my point, the above picture is me with black hair and brows.

When I dyed my hair, I of course lightened my brows. Using the same product on your hair to your brows to lighten the color is not advisable. It might cause allergic reactions and its harsh on your skin.

Ok back to the brows, it totally gave me a softer look. I didnt cut my hair. Its a fake bob, hair was tied with bobby pins at the back. I do this when I just want to give myself a different look.

Another example is Alica. This was her before picture. I did her makeup for her prenup and wedding.

On her wedding day, I bleached her brows to match her hair color. A few weeks before the wedding, I reccomended a hair colorist .she wanted to lighten her hair. I also reccomended a light brown contacts to make her eyes look bigger. For her reception, the makeup was a glam smokey eyes.

I love how Alica planned for her different look. Her prenup shoot was like a magazine shoot :-)

She actually attended one of my workshops and thats where we met. I have unleashed her inner Kikayness. hahahaha.

It's past Valentines already but not too late to sport a girly pink or vampy red nail polish.
These are the pink, coral and reds that I have and I'm looking forward in buying more!!

Among all these the Opi fushia is my favorite. For the red shades , I like the Revlon. The glitters in this polish is very subtle and yet very glam looking! I use this on top off my Sally Hansen Cherry Red.

The Sally Hansen is very pigmented! one coat and you will already see the exact color you see on the bottle.

Ok so you can see the red smears on my hand !hahahaha. This is the result of a super fast manicure I did on myself!!

Anyways, can you see the subtle glitters?? Its the Revlon polish on top of the Cherry Red.Love, love love!!

My weekend makeup focuses on the eyes. The eye makeup is soft and lip color is natural. The eyebrows is defined but still natural looking. I just smudged a brown liner and used 2 coats of mascarra from Maybelline. My eye makeup are all waterproof!

My foundation is Bodyshop cream to powder, SPF 30. Great for outdoors. fast application for me, no need to set with powder so less time for me to finish my makeup!

For this look, I just want to have fun with eyeliner. I used a gel liner from MAC in brown. For the lids, I used a champagne eyeshadow,also from Smashbox

For this makeup, everything else is simple like the eyes and blush. I just used a red orange lipstick from Revlon that matches my nail polish.

My 39th birthday ( almost 40 yikes! )

Last January 21 was my 39th birthday. Yes, my last year before I turn into the forties.hahahaha. I did not have a big celebration instead I just spent it at home with my hubby and son, hanging out, eat and laze around.hahahaha.

The pictures above was at my hubby's grandmother's 92nd birthday party, on the day of my birthday at Valle Verde Country Club.

Hair and Makeup for my two friends..

Jacky is a Highschool BFF. This is the second time she asked me to do her makeup. Im actually glad to see her because we havent seen each other for a long time. Thank so much to Facebook, we still check each others updates and chat once in awhile.

Jack has deep set eyes so I just smudge a brown eyeliner for a soft effect. For eyeshadow base I used a neutral tan color shadow all over the lids, almost the same shade as her skin tone. vanilla at brow bone and espresso for her crease, all from Mac. Same brown shade at her lash line.

Mascarra from Maybelline and I used a natural looking lashes.

Blush: Bodyshop mink (pink tone) and a brown shade for contouring.

Foundation : Laura mercier. Powder: Laura Mercier translucent powder.Lipstick"Pink Noveu from Mac

For her hair, I used Revlon Hot rollers before I made a loose soft updo.

I have known Rachel since she was 18 years old! 12 years ago she will tag along her Dad in Cinderella where I work as a buyer. After a year or two, she was the one doing the sales call for her dad.

We became friends ever since. She is now AVP of Megaworld Sales Dept. and we are still Bffs. Of course, we hardly see each other but whenever we can find time, we hang out.

I used Airbrush makeup and curled her hair using 1-1/2 inch barrel of curling iron. Blush and lipstick all from Mac.

I used airbrush makeup (Graftobian ) and for her I used hot rollers.

I met Chini thru my other bride Liberty. We met with her mother and we discussed what look she wanta for her prenup as well as her wedding day. Chini is the type who wears powder and gloss and thats it!

So I wanted to give her a fresh natural look for her prenup. Just give her a flawless skin and enhance her features. I think her chinita eyes is her best feature, so just accentuate it and give it a lift.

Actaully she is wearing the hair piece I used on my wedding day! Now her hair is a bit coarse and Im sure by the time she reached their location, it will go back to straight ( I did not go with her on location ) so to preserve the curls, I used bobby pins and pinned it down. Since it turned out looking great, she opted to retain the hairstyle for some of the shots before she loosend the pink. Happy accident indeed!!

Foundations I adore!

I already did a review for these products but its nice to line them up here and discuss them further. My readers and attendees of workshops almost always ask me what Liquid foundation is best. I always say, the best is the one suited for your skin. What works for me might not work for you.

But nevertheless, these are my current favorite brands. Laura mercier liquid foundation, I have the lighter and darkets shade available. I just customize the shade for clients. Personally, I use the creme foundation below (my shade is cashew beige)

In terms of blendability, both foundations are best blended by hands especially the creme foundation.

Coverage: the liquid foundation is already very good for everyday and if you want something very light. The creme has more coverage and since its waterbased, is also great for those with oily skin.

Shade wise-here in Manila, Rustans does not carry the complete shades.I find their darkest shade still light for some clients that has deep tan skin tones.

The Makeup forever mat velvet is also great in fact I use to wear this all the time. Unfortunately, there are times when I feel like its too drying for me. It does not feel as silky as the Laura foundations.

But I use this for clients with very oily tzone.

Makeup forever powder foundation is what I used to set my foundation. When I use this, I rarely retouch. It certainly absorb excess oils. This product is great for those with very oily skin or skin with slight puckmarks because it has heavy coverage.

Some other foundations I use:

Mac Studio Fix-Great for normal to oily skin.

Smashbox liquid foundation-has great coverage as well.But the one I have has been discontinued and I havent bought the new formulation yet.

Bodyshop mineral cream to powder: Light coverage, still needs to be set with translucent powder but great for those with dry sensitive skin.

Blouse, skirt and belt from Zara. Satin flats from staccato.

I love how this blouse shimmers! Its lightweight and the fit is great! Although the neckline is really low ( I got a medium size, normally Im a smal in Zara ) so maybe thats why the neckline seems so low!

The skirt is very versatile and can be worn dress down or totally glam!

I dont want to wear too much eyeshadow so its mostly eyeliner. I used a lightweight foundation (Laura Mercier) The Light shade at the center of my face and 2 shades darker at my cheeks. I do this when I dont have time to use a bronzer. The blush is from body shop..its peach brown. Eyeliner from mac and mascarra from Loreal. No lipstick here but I just dab on a gloss.

I really wanted to do a tutorial for this look but Im pressed for time. Oh by the way, Im wearing hair extensions from Keira. I will probably do a tutorial on this next time ( I hope! )

Makeup look-Purple Drama

Went to a friends house for dinner and this was my outfit. I dont want to wear something fancy but instead I just accessorized. The necklace I bought from a tiangge in Eastwood. I love the rocker chic look.

This pumps is 5-6 inches high! I rarely use this ( this is the 2nd time) because although its comfortable, the pumps is a bit loose. hahaha.gotta buy more silicone shoe pads.

Subtle gold eye shadow for the holidays

This is the makeup look I wore last night at a birthday party my husband and I attended. This photo was taken using my Ipad2, 5 hours after application. The onl thing I retouched when I was there was my lipstick!

The eyeshadow is gold and matte light brown (taupe). This makeup is perfect for parties and for those that prefers light makeup. For the lipstick, you can use any neutral shade that matches for lip color.

My new Boots and Fave Red Pants!!

Red pants and sequines are so in right now! This is my first colored pair ever, would you believe that? My pants are either black, Navy blue, whitecamouflage or khakis.

Top and red skinny pants from Mango, boots from Zara. This particular pants has special coating that resembles leather. I just love the feel of the fabric and the bright shade of red!

The boots a bit expensive I will admit (well for me! ) but I know I can wear this boots with skirts,shorts and dresses as well. hehehehehe. This line reminded me of Monica from friends. There was an episode where she bought a pair of very expensive knee high boots.She ended up loosing the said pair because it hurts her feet so much. Well, these boots are comfy and you just need to wear a thin socks to avoid friction.

The zipper at the black adds a very chic touch to the design. I looove it! Thanks to my hubby! Aside from the kate spade he gave me, these boots are my fave!!

This is the outfit I wore at christmas party/get together last night with my hubby. I was told it was sort of an open area near the pool. It was humid that night so I figured I can wear this top I bought from Zara 2 weeks ago ( P995.00 ) and wore it with a black skinny pants ( P2,550.00 ) and blue suede pumps

( P2,290 ) all from Zara.

The basic black skinny is very versatile. You can dress it down, like what I did here, Top from Zara ( P990 ) and gold sequinned shoes from stacatto.

or glam it up with this top.

The top looks simple enough at the front and the lace detail gives it that sexy surprise...:-)
My only problem with this blue is that the lace fabric does not stretcch like the black cotton fabric, so it feels weird at the back--because you get all the huggy feel all over and then the back really feels like you dont have anything on.Hahahaha. Good thing I have a corset/bra so it goes well with this outfit.

Missing my fashion stint days...

I missed those days when I dress up for work or fashion events. For almost 2 decades I have worked in the fashion industry and Im used to attending fashion events, photo shoots, press cons, parties and so on and so forth. But dont get me wrong, I love my life now as well. Focussing on my family and my beautiful son.

So from time to time, I will dress up even if Im just going to the mall, or do my usual mommy errands :-)

Lately, I have ventured into posting my looks in lookbook. Its actually pathetic because I have only 3 fans (hahahaha) but I dont care. Its my way of expressing my love for fashion even if my looks are just casual, I post them because its my way of expressing myself :-) Just like makeup.. So this blog of mine will now have FASHION REVIEWS, PHOTOS OF MY LOOK FOR THE DAY, HAULS BOTH MAKEUP AND CLOTHES/SHOES AND ANYTHING RELATED TO FASHION.

On her wedding day, the photographer arrived at 11:30.We were quite worried because the wedding was at 2:00pm. Good thing, pictures were great. Then the wedding singer friend of the bride was not able to sing during the march. again, keep in mind, these things happen during any event, be it weddings or not. The important thing is that, the event is still memorable and keep your cool.

Liz kept her cool and I told her to focus on the good things so that she wont get tensed.

Liz is a very sweet girl and she booked my services at a fair. She saw my website (www.ochielaraya.com) and went to my booth and booked my services without any trial. Im so glad I was a part of her wedding .

How I lost weight

When I gave birth last 2008, I gained weight and my heaviest was 150. I have accepted the fact that this is my new body weight and form. I even laugh when people mistake me of being pregnant ( I have a small face but m tummy is really big. My waistline was 34-35 )

I was down to 137 at the time this photo was taken.

I just took this photo myself. Im 110 at that time. Just last month.

Tough Jeans gave me a pair of pants ( a whooping P 8,000 !! almost $200! ) as part of the payment for doing the hair and makeup for their live mannequine show at Shangrila Mall. I asked for their biggest size and they sent me size 29!! Seriously people. 29??

It cant even go up past my knees. Good thing I did not give this pants away. Im not bragging but it's a nice feelig to finally wear jean again. I can now cross my legs and wear tank tops. :-)

This was taken last July. Im wearing a Herve Leger dress I bought on-line, size small. Whew. My legs still need some work but over all Im happy with my new weight of 105. How to stay at this weight is the challenge. I think I have gained 2-3 pounds in 2 week.Arghh. But its ok. Im now enjoying eating healthy and doing alot of activities at home ( painting, decorating ) and of course work!

Ok, the next question is how I lost the weight? I will not lie, I had to drink an appetite suppresant (slimming pills) a little exercise and some science ( meso theraphy/radio frequency )

I still ate sweets ( chocolate bars, cake,ice cream ) but in moderation. I ate more vegetables and salad. Eating healthy does not mean you dont eat tasty food.

A lot of people will say drinking diet pills is not healthy and I agree, over all, you must do what is doable for you. :-)

From 150 last March 2011, after 5 months, Im 106 pounds. I wanted to loose weight for helth purposes ( im borderline diabetic ) and my husband and I plan to have another baby soon.

For those who is struggling with their weight, my advise is to adapt a healthy and active lifestyle. Crash diets will not give a lasting result though it can do the work.

Bride Liberty and June Nuptials

Liberty is one of the sweetest bride I have ever met. Very down to earth and what you see is what you get. She easily opened up to me and to tell you the truth, it's like Ive known her all my life. Jun is a bit reserved and quiet but he warmed up to me and frankly, he is just like my husband. Once you get to know him, he is actually very funny :-)

I was glad to be part of their special day. And Im grateful that Liberty refered me to her boss, so one of my brides is actually the daugther of her previous boss.

Liberty is wearing my very own headand. I was suppose to wear this on my wedding day but ended up using my crystal barette instead. I was glad Liberty liked it. This hair accessoru became her "something borrowed!! :-)

Mikki found me at one of my Bridal fairs in Megamall but it took her several months before she was able to book my services. She told me that she visited several other fairs looking for me and finally she was able to find my card and she booked an appointment right away. She ended up booking my services, when I returned to Megamal for another fair.

Mikki and Porch Prenup pictures are one of the few ones I really like. I love the pictures at the bridge and near the light house. Honestly, I have printed some and placed it on my "mood board". When I want to be inspired, I just look at these photos. Very romantic.

This make-up remover is so gentle on the skin it feels like your applying cold water on your skin.
One time, I was wearing my contact lenses and I accidentally transfered some of the product into my eyes ( the cotton was soaked) stupid I know but I was soo sleepy at that time. Good thing, I did not feel a thing! Great right???

Amazingly enough, it does remove waterproof makeup, although you have to use the proper tools. Since it does not work like the other makeup removers that are partoil/part liquid, the technique is to use cotton bods for removing waterproof eyeliners on your waterline and lash line. Although price is P600++, Over all rate, its a five for me.

This toner is my super favorite these days. It helps lighten my pimple marks. How do I know? Im not using any whitening cream but I observe that after only 2 weeks, my pimple marks, even the big ones, seem to dissapear. I know that pimple marks really fade thru time, but this product helps speed up the process. Also, it feels so gentle on the skin. It does not sting, in fact it leaves your skin feeling so refreshed.

This is a recent discovery. I rarely buy perfumes because I always get perfumes as a gift. But I fell in love with the scent. So I bought the body scrub as well. Although price is not cheap ( P2,500++ for the edt and P1,600++ for the scrub) overall, the scent smells like powder after 3-4 hours and reminds me of my moms powders, perfumes, her dresser and even her clothes. I remember going over her toiletries and smell her powders, perfumes. This scent takes me back to those time, my childhood.

For my last featured product, Bodyshop's Vit E setting spray. After you apply your powder foundation or matte face powders, spray this on to give your face a dewy finish. Also, during the day, freshen your face with this.

Last May 20-21 I was at SM MOA SMX for the Celebrations bridal fair. It was my first time to join a fair at SMX. It was a good experience and I would like to thank all the brides who booked my services.

During fairs, I hardly eat because I enjoy talking to clients very must I forget to eat!!! This was taken at 6pm, and It was my first meal of the day!!! I just had coffee and water non-stop.

Christine came back and had her trial on the second day of the fair. She wanted a makeup that is natural looking, fresh and can withstand the heat in Roxas City. Yes, I will be flying to Roxas for her wedding! Its not my first time in Roxas. I use to go there once a year to visit BOBSON JEANS stores and distributors, when I was their Marketing Manager. But usually it was airport-hotel-mall. This time, I hope I can go have a dip.hehehehe.

Christine had her makeup at 11am that Sunday and came back before 6pm. She told me she already went to mass and went around MOA to test my "waterproof" Smudgeproof Airbrush makeup. She said the makeup passed with flying colors.Awwwww.... She also met a lot of her friends that day from different groups, and all of them approved the makeup. I was soo glad that she came back and booked me for her wedding.

Bride Charmaine Trial and Wedding Makeup

Charmaine and I met at my recent fair at SMX last May 20-21. She booked my services even without the usual trial. But a day before the wedding, she went to my studio to discuss the kind of makeup she wants, as well as the hairstyle she wants for both ceremony and reception. Part of my service is the FREE change of look at reception. The above picture was her trial hair and makeup.

Since she told me that she is meeting her inlaws that day, I thought it would look nicer if I add a simple design on the simple side ponytail hairstyle she requested me to do.

The pictures posted here are all my own. No official pictures yet. Will surely post it next time and at my official website, www.ochielaraya.com. Charmaine wanted a dewy finish so I used TEMPTU silicon airbrush makeup. This type of airbrush has a natural dewy finish and is suitable for those with dry or combination skin.

Charmaine advised me that she wanted her foundation to be one shade ligther because she observed that her makeup has a tendency to darken. Consult with your MUA and make sure that even if the shade is lighter than your natural skin tone, the over all color should not be too far from the TRUE color of your skin. Also, noticed that her brows in this picture is lighter compared to the prenup makeup?? I dyed her eyebrows! This technique can instantly make you younger..

This is the look charmaine wanted at the reception. I added a diamon powder from MUFE and just added thicker eyeliner, full set of lashes (half lashes only at reception, since the wedding was early morning) She also wanted a body shimmer so I used a very subtle kind of shimmer, from Body shop.

This is how the Airbrush makeup looks like after 4.5 hours. Actually Airbrush makeup can last up to 12 hours and it will still look great! But if you have oily skin, you just need to blot the oil off.

Charmaines Hair and makeup by yours trully. She wanted a loose and relaxed updo free from lots of hairspray. So the hairsstyle I did was not the stiff kind of updo. Anyways, we were thinking, the venue was indoor. So we thought...

Before the Bridal March, I was outside as well. Who would have thought that at Glass garden, the wind was so strong Charmaine almost toppled over. Can you see from her posture that the long veil was almost pulling her from the back??

At the bridal suite in Glass garden Pasig. We were given 30 minutes to do the change of look. Usually I do this alone. Thank you to Lorybelle for being my hair partner that day. She also did the hair and makeup of some of the entourage. So this is how I look like when I am seriously doing makeup...hmmmm. not a pretty sight !!LOL.

I was not able to get a before picture of the maid of honor but this was the makeup I did on her. I played around the matte gray color of her gown and her skin color. Gray/silver looks great on her.

I did her moms makeup too! I guess her mom liked the make-up!

Alica's transformation and Trial

I Met Alica at ADB where I had a 3-day makeup workshop and demo. I was glad she got me for her pre-nup shoot because I actually love doing photo shoots. Back when I was still a designer/buyer in Penshoppe/Oxygen/Bobson/For me , I always go with the advertising team on shoots. I often do the styling and help with the concept and over all theme of the shoots.

With Alica and Tabs, the shoot was sheer fun!

Alica wanted to dye her hair brown so I reccomended Salon Republic in Ortigas. I also did my trial there.She wore a brown contact lenses as well, which I think completes the look.

I posted Alicas prenup shoot here before,and now we did another trial using airbrush method.

Alica chose the pink lipstick and blush combination. This suits her better.

This was the first look, coral lips and blush. The looks is very spring and fresh.

For the second look, I added a pink blush and pink/gold eye shadow. Alica liked this look better. The change is subtle but if you look closely, the difference is really on the lips and blush.

This is my favorite picture of her.

I met Reggie thru my friend/collegue David Fabros. David was the photographer and we shot these pictures at..guess where? Victoria court! Yup! The room was huge and we had a blast shooting reg's pre debut photo shoot. She wanted vintage and fresh looks, hence the makeup style. Hair was done by David.

Even without makeup, Reggie reminds me of a young Eva Mendes. Reggie has a good skin considering her hectic schedule. She studies at Ateneo Law. Truly a brains and beauty gal!

Princess & brides Fair, April 2011

Last April 15-17, I was at a Bridal Fair at Megatrade Hall in Megamall. I was glad that the event was a success and I met a lot of brides and was able to get information on their concerns, needs and wants. As a hair & makeup artist, these kind of insights help me improve my craft and look for ways that can help them find what they need.

I offered FREE traditional and Airbrush makeup. All of the brides that I met and signed on the spot availed of the airbrush makeup. Im posting a few of the brides who availed of the free Makeup trial.

Bride Carla's concern is her oily skin. So I used a water based airbrush makeup for a matte finish. I just redefined the brows and enhanced her natural features. On her wedding day, I would probably focus on her eyes because for me, that's her best feature. And maybe add more blush and mantain the lip color-which she likes very much. As you can see, airbrush makeup will give you a natural finish. Why airbrush? Its lightweight, looks natural and flawless. Its long lasting, will not smudge or smear and will not clog pores, if done right.

Bride Jill's concern is her small eyes. The trick there is the right eyeliner technique, light inner rim, falsies and mascara. Of course, my favorite trick is the shimmer at inner corners to make eyes look more awake and bigger.

This is not yet the hairstyle we will do for her wedding. I just tied her hair back just to show her more or less how it look like if we tied her hair back. This is also Airbrush makeup.

For dana, I was not able to get a before picture without makeup. Her makeup is Airbrush and traditional combination. She has combination skin so I used a silicone type of airbrush makeup (temptu)

Since her Tzone tends to get very oily at the end of the day,what to do is just blot excess oil. The makeup is still intact and will not budge. On her wedding day, since I know already the behavior of her skin, I just need to mattify her face with HD powder.

Now, why does many brides choose Airbrush instead of traditional method? Lets just say that airbrush makeup is indestructable and perfect for brides who are looking for a natural looking and long lasting makeup.

Airbrush Makeup. Natural looking and long lasting

All the above photos were taken 10 hours after I applied my airbrush makeup. I did not retouch my blush or my foundation and yet I still looked fresh and my make up looks very natural.

Although I just used my Iphone in taking these pictures, you can still see that my makeup looks flawless.

The beauty of airbrush makeup is that it looks very natural, fast application ( although its an acquired skill) and last very long. Many of my brides prefer airbrush because of these qualities.

Laura Mercier foundation & loose powder review

When you are looking for a foundation, consider the 3 C's. Color, coverage and consistency. The color of this foundation ranges from pink to yellow based to suit different skin tones. Although I find that they have limited shades. Coverage on the other hand is impeccable. It is medium to full coverage and it is very blendable and so easy to apply. As soon as I applied it, it covered my age spots and pimple marks. I was told that this foundation can also cover those with rosacea, melasma, age and liver spots.

If you need more coverage, go ahead and apply a second coat and it will not cake. Also, it did not settle on my fine lines as all! So thatt's a big plus for me.

It is water based so it will not make your face look or feel oily at all. Also, since its creme, its hydrating enough that those with dry skin will love this product. Setback is price is a little steep, P1800 per tube and you just need to give the tube a good shake because sometimes, the water settles and when you press the tube, only water comes out. Aside from that, I highly reccomend this foundation for all skin type. I used this foundation and after 6 hours, I still look fresh and matte. The finish is very natural looking, although you must use a translucent powder because anything heavy will defeit the purpose of it looking natural.

As for the liquid foundations, it offers a wider range of shades compared to the creme foundation. Coverage is light to medium but its still very good because the finish looks very natural as well. Since its oil free, I can recommend this to those with oily skin. As for the consistency, its very light & feels like second skin.You just need a tiny amount because the product is very pigmented. It did not settle into my fine lines as well and this is the foundation I will use for everyday. After 4-5 hours I still didnt need to blot my face or retouch.

But I find the liquid dries up easily upon application. So its better to use your fingers or a damp sponge when applying. If you need more coverage, you can just add another coat. If you prefer a full coverage, better opt for the silk creme foundation.

Laura M. loose powder is very fine and is a great combination for the liquid and creme foundations. Although my all time favorite is still makeup forever HD powder, this is the powder I will use for everyday.

Makeup Forever Duo matte Powder Foundation

I bought several Makeup forever products recently and one of them is their Duo matte powder foundation. I used one before and this is my second one. Usually, I use MAC studio fix powder because it gives just the right coverage for me, but this powder is just as good if not better.

There is of course a downside, but let me discuss the good ones first. I love this product because it gives medium to full coverage. The trick with powder foundations is that, you conceal your imperfections first, before you apply it on, contrary to liquid foundation application.

You can wear this foundation for several hours, even outdoors and will still give you that matte finish. I wore this for 7 hours and I did not even need to reach for my oil blotter.The product absorbs oil and give you a matte finish, thus the name.

If you want a more natural looking finish, use a brush. The way to do it is to use a medium paddle powder brush & swirl it unto the pan to pick up the product. If you use a big powder brush, it might be too messy. Tap the excess as usual.

If you choose to use a sponge or velour puff, pat the powder on and do not sweep it across your face.

But if you do it this way, do not overdo the application because it will make you look cakey. This product is good but like any other product, if applied wrong, will not give good results.

Downside, I find it expensive. Mac studio fix is about P1,900 the last time I bought one ( still not cheap) this one is P2,200.

Apart from that, I will recommend this product to those who has oily, combination skin. If you have dry skin, avoid any powder foundations.

Flawless Skin Protecting Foundation by Bodyshop

Bodyshop is one of my favorite stores. I buy my bodywash, toiletries, scented oils & candles from this store. They offer a lot of discounts & rewards lately I wonder if they are still making money. Anyways, it does not diminish my love for their products. I don't own any Bodyshop makeup though, until recently.

So I would like to review them one by one. First I want to review their Flawless Protecting cream to powder foundation. After using it twice, I fell in love with it. Let me discuss a few points why it is a great product.

As far as performance is concerned, it gives the skin a radiant finish. After I applied it, I instantly saw the difference. My face look brighter and my skin looked fresh & well rested.

I used this twice for my day makeup and after 5-6 hours of running errands, I never needed to blot my face ( I use clean & clear by the way) . It glides on smoothly but be sure to apply a day cream/moisturizer first. It dries as a powder & its up to you if you still want to apply a setting powder, but wearing it alone is fine.

It has both both UVB/UVA broad spectrum SPF 15. It has Maruba oil that helps repair the skins moisture barrier. it is also infused with vitamins A, E & F that encourage regeneration of skin cells. So what does it mean? It makes you look good & its good for your skin too!

So isnt that a treat?

I do not recommend this product to those with Dry skin though. If you have Oily or combination skin, this would be perfect.

Look one: Bright lips! Occ lipsticks in fushia and some tinted moisturizer ( Nu Skin ), liquid eyeliner in black.

Look 2: Revlon fushia lipstick, cover girl berry cream blush, bare study paint pot from Mac, taupe eye shadow from Mac, Mac fluidline in black & mascarra from Maybelline.

Look 3: Foundation duo matte from MUFE. Concealers bobbie brown peach and Clinique airbrush concealer. Blush is cinnamon from Cover girl and peach from Mac. Eyeshadow in bronze from Smashbox, champagne gold pigment ,liquid liner and Lipstick glazed up all from Mac. Blush is a bronzer from Mac as well.Mascarra from Maybelline.

look 4:Same makeup but I topped the glazed up lipstick with a red lisptick from Mac.

look 5: Tinted moisturizer, O-glow from Smashbox, The Bodyshop glitter liner & Mac liquid liner in black. Lipstick in snob and dazzle glass glos both from Mac.

Look 6: tinted moisturizer (nu skin) smashbox O-glow, Mac liquid liner & Maybelline mascarra. For the lips, Max factor lipliner and Mac Pro Lipstick in Red. I added a red gloss on top from Revlon for the extra shine.

For Meryll (Mega Magazine Deputy Editor) I used a Makeup forever Duo matte foundation and set it with NC30 Mac loose powder. Before that, I used primer on her T-zone because she has oily skin, I used Smashbox oil free primer. For concealers, I used Bobbie brown peach for under eye are, and MAC nc30 for spots, red marks.

Since Meryll is Pale. I wanted a natural warm blush so I used Cover girl cream blush in Cinnamon and Loreal golden peach blush. For the eyes, I used bronze and golden brown from Smashbox quad and eye wish palette and topped it with MAC champagne gold for a little bit of shine. For lashes, I opted to use Mac mascarra and some falsies.

For the lips, its Revlon Nude and Victoria Secret gold gloss.

For Ck ( Advertising head of Mega Magazine)

Kryolan foundation and Cinema secrets loose powder. MAC nc30 for concealing and peach Bobbi brown for under eye.

Eyeshadow is MAC barestudy, as base and matte brown from Smashbox eye wish palette and MAC espresso for the crease. Mascarra is from Maybelline and some false eyelashes. For the lower lashline, its a bronze cream eyeliner and bronze eyeshadow, both from Smashbox. SInce the lips is very strong, I balaced the makeup with pink cheeks. I used Cover girl cream blush in Berry and prestige powder blush.

For the Lips, I used Lancome Red Cherry, Truco Red liner and Revlon Russian Red gloss for the extra oomph and shine

Holiday inspired nail colors

These 3 colors are my latest favorite nail polish. Since its holiday season, I chose to sport metallic and
sparkly colors. What is so great about these 3 shades are that they are all quick drying.

This deep brown color with gold glitters looked very festive yet still safe because of the brown base.Bought this from Elianto for P100, discounted from P199. I also love the bottle design. I was not able to take a picture but the top has a floral carvings and as you can see, the cap has a floral design as well. Really feminine. I think this will be a a nice gift idea for christmas.

This silver metallic shade is P325.00, quite steep I know. But like the color very much. I had to choose between this silver metallic and the other silver shade but it looked like a foil, so I bought this one instead. Unfortunately, after trying it on for a day, the color faded. Well, I didnt put any clear polish on top, but the other two polish from Elianto did not fade at all, even without the top coat.

This Emerald green shade with gold glitters is from Elianto as well. I am not really a fan of green nail polish, but lately, im loving it a lot. I even bought another green shade, but will feature next time, since its not sparkly or festive.

I will feature more colors of nail polish next time that we gals can wear this Holiday, that is great for parties. Maybe I can also come up a nail tutorial.

David Fabros, our photographer and me, goofing around during break. David and I go way back, when I was still the Marketing Head of Bobson. I've known him for more than 7 years.

This is Karen before makeup..

Karen's many faces.. here I used MUFE foundation, MAC nc30 loosepowder, Covergirl cream blush with Prestige pink blush on top. Loreal eye shadow for the eyes. I used the golden pink shade as base and the medium brown for the crease. Lipstick from Loreal, Rosewood. Mascarra is from MEGA volume Maybelline in black.

I intensified the blush a bit and change the lipcolor into red by Lancome and then I topped it off with Revlon Russian red lipgloss, which is my personal favorite.

Here I just added a darker shade of brown, espresso from Mac at the outer corner .For the lips, I used Loreal Toffee and Revlon mineral lip glaze.

Amy found me at a bridal expo last June at the Wrold trade center. I did trial makeup on her and she booked right away. I was so happy she liked the makeup very much. David on the other hand was a very good friend, who bailed me out of a problem. 3 days before the wedding my hairstylist partner cannot make it .Good thing David (who is a photographer by profession ) helped me out and he agreed to help me with the hair.

First time for me to witness a muslim wedding. I did the makeup for Amys friends as well.

Last Friday I got asked to do makeup for some ladies at the Philip Morris event at Sofitel. I did the hair and makeup for these 2 wonderful, lovely ladies, Chika and Jill. Chika's makeup is sort of a 50's glam makeup, but I modernized the eyes and added sparkle. The hair was Veronica lake inspired.

Jill's makeup is very chic. Silver eyes and bright fushia lips to match her gown. And since the event is held at Sofitel ballroom, lights would be yellow of course.That is why I made the makeup a bit intense than usual, since the lights will diffuse the makeup!

TIP: for night event, do not use a makeup with SPF. It will reflect light and will make your face look abit washed or lighter than usual, because the titanium dioxide (responsible for the spf ingredient) will reflect light. Also, use a primer so that your makeup last longer.

I wanted Sarah to look glamourous and modern .

For the face : I used Smashbox HD foundation and Mac studio fix powder. For the eyes, I use Smashbox bronze at the crease and Mac paint pot in bare study. I did a drop smokey eye design and loaded her lash line with lots of black liner, smoldering from Mac and mac fluidline.

For the lashes, I combined Maybelline mega volume mascara blue bionic mascara from Smashbox. I did not line her upper lash line, just lots of mascarra and fake lashes. The blush is Revlon in sienna, lips in revlon nude and mac lip glass gloss.

Sarah is very pretty and very down to earth and I didnt have a hard time doing her makeup because she knows exactly what to do. If I dont know better, I would say she is like a pro! I also did the makeup for her mom and sister in law :-)

Just applied gloss-she is still due for rehearsals. I look soo tired, I woked up at 5:30am that day, and got lost . I arrived super late. Good thing the models were busy fitting and was still finishing breakfast ( yup, these models eat!! hahaha ) so I didnt miss a lot.LOL.

Candice Adea,our very own prima ballerina

Last August I got a call from MEGA magazine & an email about a shoot for Candice Adea.She is one of the few Prima ballerina in the country. She recently won a silver medal at a ballet competition in the US.

The day of the shoot I woke a up at 6am, left the house at 7am and arrived at PICC past 8am. I found Candice making use of her precious time...taking a nap. She had been doing rehearsals non-stop, 8-10 hours a day, 6 days a week. Wow, that is real hard work.

with JM, her partner and boyfriend and of course me!! :-) I look like a cow beside Candice.LOL.
JM became a ballet dncer because of the many hourse spent waiting for Candice, he thought what better way to spend more time together,than dance together right? Smart guy.

I couldnt post the pictures right away because MEGA has yet to publish the issue last October.

Egg white facial, does it really give a face lift?

I have tried several egg white facial mask at home. I like the eggwhite+milk the best. if you dont like milk, you can add honey instead. It leaves my skin smooth with a tight sensation, that last about 15-20 minutes. I feel like I have botox all over my face, which is actually funny because I feel like my face was semi-frozen, if there is such a term.

Apart from the home made version, I also use NU SKIN's EGG WHITE FACIAL. Truthfully, I can't really see my pores shrinking that much, but the tight sensation is there. My face feels smooth and silky, especially when I combine it with milk.

It also lighthens my face a little bit as well. I have listed down some of the benefits of egg white facial, and they are as follows:

Acne

Egg whites are a good source of protein so it can be used to heal and rebuild the skin and reduce or eliminate acne. But I tried using this, at the time that I have acne, I did not really see any improvement after. So maybe if you do this weekly, it can help reduce the acne.

Tighten Pores

Egg whites contain the enzyme Lysozyme, which has been found to stop spoilage and acts as natural preservative in certain foods. This characteristic is thought to carry over into skin care, preserving the skin's natural elasticity and tightening pores.

Soak up Oil

The protein content in egg whites help to absorb excess oil in the skin, leaving the face toned and fresh but not shiny. In fact, egg whites can also be applied to the face as a mild astringent. Maybe thats why I feel like my face is a shade lighter after do this facial.

Temporary face lift

Egg whites can provide a temporary reduction in wrinkles. The protein hides wrinkles and gives skin a smoother look.

How to Use?

To make an egg white face treatment, crack open an egg and separate the yolk from the white. With a whisk, whip the white until foamy; then apply a thin layer to your face, or you can use a gauze & apply the eggwhite mask.

Allow to dry for about 10 or 15 minutes. Then you can peel off the gauze along with your whiteheads/black heads.You can add other ingredients if you wish, like Honey, oatmeal or my favorite, which is Milk.

Drawback is the smell. And if you are allergic of course to chicken, and of course to eggs, please dont try this.

But over all, I think its a cheap way to a smooth, Healthy looking skin.

Airbrush Makeup.. is it really that good??

Airbrush makeup looks very natural . Your skin looks flawless as if there is no makeup. Have you seen someone wearing a makeup that looks cakey or too powdery? Airbrush is not like that. It feels light on the skin, covers pimple marks , pores & fine lines plus it last longer than the traditional makeup.

Though its not advisable for those that has big pimples, because this system delivers super fine particles of foundation that may irritate the skin.

But Yes its good, that is why almost all of the Hollywood celebrities uses this method. All the looks above are done using Temptu Pro airbrush makeup.

Downside is maintenance. Well, for the makeup artist. The gun must always be clean & properly stored. You must also handle it carefully,especially the gun because the needle is very delicate and it clogs easily.If you break it, you have to buy a new gun and its quite expensive.

The pro airbrush system is heavy, well, the heavy duty ones. Some of the other brands are light, but you can only use this for one hour or two. If you are on a shoot, or doing makeup for the entire entourage of a wedding,or even body makeup, that will not suffice.

If you are the client, airbrush is more expensive. My rate for airbrush makeup is P1,000 bucks higher than the traditional method.

Over all rate? Airbrush is perfect for brides that prefers a natural looking makeup that will last for the entire event. If you want a no makeup look, this is also what I will recommend.

My Favorite Makeup Remover and short review

Currently, my favorite makeup remover by far is from Elianto. This is my 3rd bottle already.As you can see in the picture, its totally used up. Now I like this product because, A. It removes waterproof mascarra easily without tugging my skin.

B.It has promegranate extract which is a powerful anti-oxidant, so it cleanses my skin & makes smoother at the same time. and C. I love the scent of this product. Plus t P399.00 for 100 ml is not that expensive & it's totally worth it.

Second product I want to talk about is Body shop's Camomile "gentle makeup remover for eyes & lips. I "use to love" this product, note the "past tense" in that sentence. Its because, when I recently bought it again, I regret buying it. Im quite ashamed because I really endorse this product..but when I used it recently, it gave me this Burning feeling on my skin & it did not remove my waterproof mascarra as well as before.The price for 250ml is P550.00 which is even cheaper than Elianto if you think about it. But, this product totally failed me.I use it occassionally but not on my eyes-which defeits the purpose really.

Maybe because I am using Retinol skincare now,so my skin is really sensitive, but the Elianto makeup remover is still very gentle on my skin & did not give me that buring feeling, like this one.

The Oil of Olay makeup remover, at P699,is really steep. But I got this for free when I bought my Regenerist night cream. At first it was also great because it has anti aging ingredients & it does remove makeup & mascarra, you just have to massage it a bit. But, one day, when I checked the label, I saw that it has parabens & mineral oil, I got turned off because parabens & mineral oil are harmful to your skin.Its a cheap lubricant & these ingredients can clog your pores.I was so dissapointed because I love Olay products.

I also tried Shue Emura Cleansing oil, but I dont like the "greasy" oil residue feel on my skin, though it removes waterproof makeup well. The LOREAL makeup remover is also good and its P399.00 for 100ml.

I also love Lancome makeup remover, but the price is too steep for me. So, my tip is try a small bottle of makeup remover or if they have a tester before buying a big one, because you dont want to be saddled with a product you will never use again.

Simple steps for Flawless Complexion

Not everybody is born with perfect flawless skin. Most of us have to work at it. Yes makeup can help, but its still best to maintain our skin healthy. So I have listed my simple steps on how to achieve a flawless look.

1.Always Start with a good skin care regimen.

Look for a cleanser that can exfoliate your face gently & hydrate a the same time. There are a lot of products nowadays that offers anti-aging properties in their facial cleansers.

I personally use Olay Regenerist It also has small beads that exfoliates the skin. NU skin has a facial wash that uses Vit C to lighten, hydrate & cleanse face all the same time. But this is too pricey for me.

Dont forget to exfoliate to get rid of those dead skin. We shed dead skin everyday & we need to aid this process for new skin to emerge.It also helps produce more collagen.

2.Moisturize, moisturize!

When I was in my 20's I don't moisturize at all. BIG mistake people.

You don't have to wait till your 30 before you even think of buying a moisturizer. Also, people with oily skin tend to think that they do not need to moisturize. Guess what?WRONG!

Moisturizers will hydrate your skin..not make it more oily. If your skin is oily, you just need to find an oil free moisturizer or a water based or gel form kind to minimize the oily feeling on your skin. That is a very common misconception ladies!

Bodyshop has lightweight serum,I use this personally, this is mostly water, aloe & other natural organic ingredients that can help sooth, hydrate & lighten the skin. At Beauty bar, they have a VIT A gel for the eyes. Great for minimizing fine wrinkles plus it feels so cool.This gel reduces puffiness around the eyes. Just avoid heavy creams my lovelies if you have oily skin.

3.Use a good foundation and concealer.

I have pimple marks myself, but I just know how to "conceal" it to fake flawless skin.

Laura mercier has a very good camouflage concealer that is matte for under eye circles.

Bobbi brown peach concealer is also good. I use MAC Nc30, though it can be too "creamy" for some people. I just use a tiny bit.

For foundations, I use kryolan Ultra. This is in cream form & makes your face look dewy. I use this because I prefer a dewy look rather than a powder matte look. Unless its a Photo shoot, i stick to a natural dewy look.

Revlon color stay foundation is good, as well as their custom creation foundation. I sometimes use this as well.

It helps to emulsify the product by rubbing it between your fingers or at the back of your palm. You don't have to slather the foundation all over your face..just spot correct,like a concealer.

If you have oily skin-use an oil free foundation. Dry skin-cream or liquid is fine. Matured skin, look for foundations that has peptides that can plump sagging skin.

4.Use a Primer-Well, certainly not everyday, but primers are made of silicone and peptides, that coats the skin for even application of makeup. It makes the makeup adhere well on your skin so that it last longer. Smashbox primer is in gel form and this is my favorite. Its also oil free.They have a lot of colors to correct skin discolorations, but I personally use the clear gel. They have a new one that covers big pores, but its not available in the Philippines yet. :-(

5.Contour & highlight

Most of us filipinos, esp if we are already tan, we don't use bronzers. But matte bronzers, when used right can add dimension to the face, which is great for correcting face shape imperfections.

It can also add a glow to your face, just use it conservatively.

Highlighting add glow as well, so I recommend highlighting these parts;Bridge of nose, cupids bow, brow bone, cheekbones, center of forehead, chin & inner corners of the eyes. Powder or cream is fine. Skip the cream if your skin is oily.

6.Stay fresh by using an oil blotter.

I always carry with me an oil blotter. I use clean & clear. Recently, one bride showed me a cute oil blotter from kleenex. Its even cheaper that clean & clear. Just check Watson's or other stores for oil blotters. Bodyshop has one, but its a little pricey.

7.Pressed powder!

Use a press powder with SPF for daily use. Matte is ideal. I use Makeup forever matte powder foundation. But if this is too expensive for you, there are a lot of good drugstore powders like Loreal, Revlon and Maybelline.

8.Facial Spritz

Ok, so we dont normally have this. But its so always hot in Manila. I personally carry my own evian, so that when I feel so hot or dry, I just spray it on, to look & fell fresh. Bodyshop has a Vit c facial spritz, so I only use this when Im in an event :-) and I have to look my best. Otherwise, my evian is fine.

You can also make you own! Just buy an atomizer, add a drop or two of perfume oil, peppermint or mandarin, and viola! your dupe for these sort of expensive sprays.

9.Use sunscreen

Dont skip this part. Always always wear sunscreen under your makeup. Sometimes I forget, but trust me my lovelies, sunscreen will do a lot to maintain your young looking skin. SPF on makeup is not enough. It can only protect you for a couple an hour of two, but once your skin secretes oil & sweat, it can easily get rubbed off. Better to use a broad spectrum uva uvb sunscreen. I use NIVEA Spf 50 on my face & SPF 30 on my body, everyday.

My Skin Savior Products

I got asked a lot when it comes to skin care products. So I took a picture of all the skin care items I am currently using. So, this is a picture from my bathroom shelf. From the left, is my makeup remover, promegrenate from Elianto cosmetic. I like this a lot because it removes my waterproof makeup effortlessly. It removes the stain from lipsticks as well. Its good to invest on a good MU remover to avod tugging your skin & of course save time.

I also use ponds or beauty oil from Human nature ( it not shown here because its in my travel kit ) This is when i feel like massaging my face before I wash it with my fave cleaner. Just avoid putting on too much if you have oily skin or it may clog your pores.

The 2 astringents Im currently using is clean & clear & Ponds. But I am thinking of switching back to Neutrogena after I finish these two.

For Day creams-I use the Body shop whitening serum before I apply my Nivea sunscreen, spf 50. For Night, I use the Oil of Olay serum & night cream. The formulation of the night cream is a bit rich so I wait a few minutes before I go to bed to let my skin absorb the product first.

The anti-wrinkle cream is from Oil of Olay too. This fills in my fine lines so that it does not look too obvious. I also use the regenerist facial wash. Its in cream form & it has some beads to gently exfoliate the skin. It does not produce foam but I like the way it leaves my skin feeling silky afterwards.

The NU skin tinted moisturizer has SPF 15 already, and I use this everyday. I like the coverage & it gives my skin a dewy glow.

The almost used up Virgin coconut oil is for days when I feel my skin is really dry. I slather this all over my body before I take a bath.

The HELP ME retinol cream is new- I havent use this yet. Will surely do a review, once I start using it.

What is BB Cream?

I ask the same question myself. And as a MUA, people expect me to know these things, and since being the curious cat that I am, I did some research.

BB Cream, aka Blemish Balm, is an innovative multifunctional product category that blends skincare and cosmetic using botanical ingredients. It started off as a soothing treatment balm dermatologists and surgeons used on patients who underwent laser skin treatment. It helps to shield\protect and regenerate delicate skin. Based on my google search, Korean actresses and stars soon started using this cream and it sparked off a huge craze in Korea due to its excellent results. Its popularity has spread from Korea to entire Asia, and the west has caught on this craze as well.

What is it? BB Creams moisturizes, covers up naturally while rejuvenating/renewing skin underneath, sun protectant. Some have whitening or wrinkle repairing properties or even a glossy shimmer. The color seeps into the skin so naturally that it hardly seems like one has makeup on (unlike foundations) yet still creating a flawless look. This is why it usually comes in one colour (the more you rub, the more it ‘seeps’ into the skin).

It also is a natural moisturizer and makes the skin feel dewy and not oily. BB Creams are made from high nutritional ingredients with anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-oxidating properties. The ingredients vary in different types of BB Creams. I got to try one, a free item for a purchase, from Face shop. I like it very much, that I tried to buy one when I used up mine but unfortunately it was out of stock at that time.

I bought a tinted moisturizer from Nu Skin instead. I have been satisfied with the product so I never got to buy a BB cream.Plus, I only need to use a little amount so its been like 4 months and its still not yet half the bottle.

But now I know the difference, I would like to try it again. Maybe do a product review as well.

Contour in Makeup? effects & tips

Contour in makeup is a technique used by MUA such as myself to create an illusion of depth, shade or shadow .We also highlight prominent areas like nose bridge, temples, chin, brow bone to make our face appear 3 dimensional.

Contouring & highlight is the technique we use specially for Photo shoots (Makeup for Photography ) TV, Runaway & for weddings. In this picture you can see the dramatic effect of contour & highlight. The makeup for the two pictures is the same but I use contour & highlight for the picture on the right.

Obviously, in photographs, our faces become flat, specially, flash photography. You can see he picture at your right her nose bridge are more prominent, her cheekbones pop, and you will notice, I made her forehead appear shorter/smaller than the actual. With the right contour & highlight, we can make someone's face appear thinner than usual, hide imperfections or highlight a good feature.
